The Story
As a kid growing up in the 80s, Sick James started out raiding his mom's record collection, honing his craft by scratching her records. He sold his saxophone, bought his first turntable at 16, and has been spinning, scratching and making music ever since.
He's also the mastermind behind Skratch Attach, magnetically attachable tonearms that created the first motorized controller capable of mixing vinyl, and its telescopic follow-up the X10, plus companion software (with an iOS app built alongside DJ Quartz) that puts effects, sample pads and live looping at a turntablist's fingertips.
Along the way he's rocked iconic rooms from the House of Blues to the Viper Room, played Hiero Day in Oakland, and won YouTube Underground 2006 with his group Ostrich Head, landing an appearance on Good Morning America. His scratches have turned up on records by Aceyalone, Kirk Knight, on TV in America's Next Top Model and Blue Mountain State, in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004, and on Ostrich Head's "Feather," now past a million Spotify plays.
